When sliced bread hit the market, American consumers weren't are just how great it was. On this day, July 7, in 1928, a bakery in Chillicothe, Mo., was the first to sell pre-cut bread using Otto Frederick Rohwedder's invention: the automatic great-slicing machine.

Breadcrumb Topping;
To make breadcrumb topping, pluse togather in a food processor several slice of bread with a tablespoon of butter. Then sprinkle on casseroles, roasted veggies or mashed potatoes just before they go in the oven for a rich, crispy finish.
French Bread Pizza;
Toasted bread makes a delicious pizza crust. Top bread with pizza topping and bake until edges are brown and the cheese is bubbly and melted. French bread pizza can even be prepared ahead and stored int freezer until ready to bake.
